I went into 2024 with the goal of becoming a better leader of my company, a better entrepreneur, a better CEO and overall just try to raise the bar for as many aspects of my life as i could. So the first thing I did was look at what other wildly successful people do. Time and time again, there was one recurring theme — they all read voraciously. So I took on the challenge of finding a way to read 52 books in a year up from about half a dozen in the previous five years combined. As a father of three with a busy work and travel schedule, this forced me to upend my life in many ways to make time to read, but I see the fruits of this labor every single day. So now, I want to share that reading list with others so we can learn and grow together.

I’m going to add to this slowly throughout the year with some books I read in 2024 and books I’m currently reading. Be sure to discuss your thoughts along the way in the book club discussion channel in the Tavyrn discord.

If you search for best modern business books, this will be on every single list. It's the backbone of my new company and I've used the tenets within to make the GCN as lean as possible. I can't recommend this highly enough.
This was at the top of my list to read for 2025. I heard it mentioned in several of the books I read last year and couldn't wait to dig in. Whether it's creating Manifestø or any of the important projects I have with the GCN, Deep Work will be the KEY to making any of it happen this year.
Definitely in the top 5 books I read in 2024. It's a super quick read and you'll want to read it again right when you finish. Books like these will make business school obsolete in 10 years. I may go reread it again right now!
I mentioned this one on a social media video I posted. When I'm scrolling IG and I see Rick Rubin talking, I watch the whole clip every time. He has such a beautiful and unique perspective on art and like he says in the beginning, take what you want from his thoughts and ignore the rest. There's so much to discover here.
If you haven't already read this, just take a break from whatever you're reading, buy this and dig in. Whether you're trying to get control of what feels like a completely out of control life or just trying to fix pestering holes in your game that are holding you back, this book has insight upon insight on how to get on track.
This is a wonderful introductory book on mindfulness that's been around for over 20 years, but there are still phrases and quips from Tolle that I find myself coming back to time and time again when feeling overwhelmed and not totally present. If personal development books seem too woo woo for you, I get it, BUT if you're not 100% happy with your life, you have nothing to lose spending some time with this.
I saw this one recommended over and over again by business titans when I began my 2024 reading journey. It's a lot, but understanding the fundamentals of what Christensen talks about is vital to creating your toolbag for disrupting whatever industry you're looking to break into.
I have never prized sleep and have always had an on again/off again relationship with insomnia. If nothing else, this book scared me straight on the importance of making sleep a priority and I'm already seeing the short term benefits from just focusing on getting no less than seven hours a night.
Of all the books that I've read or listened to in the past 15 months, this one has to go in my top five. Time is that one commodity so few of us value enough or feel like we have the ability to focus on with the stresses of life. As a CEO and owner of now two businesses, I felt like this book has the potential to be life-changing for me, but this goes wayyyy beyond business. Great quote from the book, "Successful people aren't doing what they love because they're rich. They're rich because they've learned to do what they love, and only what they love." I can't wait to read it again.
I had never heard of Naval Ravikant, but apparently of all the work this wildly successful entrepreneur and investor has done, it was the simple act of tweeting that led to the creation of this book. He spent over a decade using 140 characters to drop philosophical wisdom bombs that he's learned along his journey which led him to become one of the most celebrated angel investors in the world. Chock full of fascinating ruminations on wealth and happiness, this is just a great read or listen no matter where you are in life.
If you asked me to recommend one book that I wish I read before I started a business, this is the book. Though I didn't discover it until 10 years in, I come back to the insights within over and over again whenever making big decisions about the direction of the GCN as well as my hopes for my new company. Don't let the textbook-ish cover fool you, if you're interested in business at all (and by the way if you have a podcast or want to start a podcast, YOU HAVE A BUSINESS) read this book immediately.
If your social media algorithm includes looking for inspiration, you've probably seen a clip of Simon Sinek speaking before. His Ted Talk that led to this book has over 67 million views and I highly recommend the audio book so you can hear it in his voice. I've spent the better part of the last year getting introspective on how I can be a better leader, both in business and in creative settings. "Start With Why" opened my eyes to concepts I now try to infuse into everything I do.
